Imagine Mindfulness 2.0 (Im2) Purpose & History

Im2’s vision is to support individuals and organizations worldwide that are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of everyone, through MBSR (mindfulness), regardless of their circumstances (financial, ethnicity, location, or any other).

Im2 teaches MBSR and our programs offer participants opportunities to experience mindfulness through discovery, exploration, experimentation, and purpose (DEEP).

A Brief History of Im2

The journey to discovering and teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) began in 2012 when Jerry was diagnosed with a serious case of heart arrhythmia. After two years on medication, he reluctantly signed up for an MBSR courseas a last resortathis doctor’s recommendation. He tried to quit and get a full refund at the orientation after noticing the word “meditation” written on the board and thinking, “only weirdos do that.”After careful thought, he decided to stay.

In week 4, he was doing a body scan, and felt his arrhythmia change to a regular beat. The next day, he called his cardiologist and asked him to schedule a 24-hour Holter monitor and an echocardiogram for the day after the course ended. He wanted to know whether what he was feeling was supported by objective scientific evidence, since he had not changed anything else in his life. His cardiologist called him with the results and said “Mr. Cambra, your 40-50% heart arrhythmia is now down to less than 10%, and your heart function is now over 50%. I’m taking you off all medication, and you need to keep doing what you’re doing.”

He was sold. Weird or not, it was working. He dedicated himself to practicing and teaching MBSR ever since. In 2015, he began training with the University of Massachusetts as an MBSR Instructor and he enlisted the help of his friend who was a registered nurse, to design an MBSR program that could be delivered online. No one else was doing this at the time. He became a qualified MBSR teacher in March of 2016 and taught his first live MBSR program in November of 2016. In 2020, he received his certification as an MBSR instructor from both UMass and Brown Universities.

Im2 was born in 2023 out of the need for a nonprofit organization to provide a no-fee, donation-based option for those that can't to take MBSR.  

Purpose: Access for All

MBSR has been the gold standard in stress reduction since 1979 with clinical studies to support its effectiveness. For about 10 years, the instructors of Im2 have offered Mindfulness programs including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for little or no cost. In 2015, we imagined offering MBSR online and have developed and provided the highest quality and the lowest priced programs since then, allowing for access for all!

Im2 is the only MBSR provider that does ALL of the following:

  • No Required Fees – MBSR is offeredon a donation basis for everyone.No scholarships, sliding scales, or pleas. It’s not about the money!

  • Certified MBSR Instructor –All programs are designed and directed by a duel certified MBSR instructor (certified by UMass & Brown Universities).

  • Im2 is a 501c3 nonprofit/NGO–We offer affordable, live online MBSR programs worldwide.

  • Two instructors in each MBSR program – This offers diversity and flexibility in teaching.

  • All volunteer organization – No one gets paid and the instructors offer their expertise because they care – that’s it!

  • Qualified and Certified MBSR Instructors – We are committed to the support and growth of our instructors by financially contributing to their continued learning and growth through Brown University and The Center for Mindfulness (CFM) Canada.
